‘The only time is now.’

Is it though? Just below us, the times lie in a neat pile. Rock, minerals, imprints of creatures.  Upon peeling back the layers, geologists bring these elements to light. Extracting them from their homes in the ground, brush in hand, they dust off traces of days - or rather, eons - gone by and like that can uncover the entire history of the Earth. Really, then, the past is always right here and now.

It’s this bewildering realisation that drives Honey I’m Home. In this interactive installation, you get to treat a living room like an excavation yard. Except here, you are not breaking ground and orderly digging deeper. Instead, Yani and Roland Mylanus have ploughed the ground and invite you to rummage through its mingled contents. Upon entering this home, you encounter sonic snippets of scenes from the past as you move through a deceptively blank room. A neighbour’s dispute echoing through the vents, the insistent ringing of a landline, a voice with an old fashioned British inflection. They’re hints at lives lived.

The findings, to varying extents tied to objects in the room, make you highly aware of where your feet are planted. Yet, at the same time, their fragmentary nature lifts you off those very feet and encourages you to take flight into fantasies about other times, other lives, other events. One place, it becomes clear, reaches far beyond what the eye can see. In recollecting these histories, you inevitably face incomplete narratives full of gaps, incoherences or even blatant lies. Here, the plaster-covered interior offers two different options to engage with this: preserve the parts you’ve uncovered, or fill in the blanks and determine how they will live on.

Exactly at what point, then, do you go from listener to narrator? Or, as your experience and the countless ones preceding you come together in this living room, do the roles collide? In Honey I’m Home, the layers of the ground upon which our individual experience is built are laid bare, and the question arises: whose legacy is this?

Mine, yours, or ours?

Big thanks to Stan en Bas Schram for their workspace !

Honey I'm Home
is an interactive art piece that you can enter and touch .
On entry of the space where the artpiece is placed you will be handed a headphone .

the piece is all a monochrome  white and looks like the cliche of a livingroom
with a connected bathroom . One will recognize the objects but it is never
about the design of the object , it’s about the function of the object.

When you enter the slightly elevated piece with your headphone you will ‘find’ different
sounds and stories while moving around the ‘livingroom’ of the house you entered.
you’ll find yourself a guest and you’ll hear quotes and sounds from the past.
from the people that used to inhibit this space.
